Sean (Kerr Smith) is driving from Los Angeles to Florida to attend his sister's wedding. On the way, Sean encounters a hitchhiker named Nick (Brendan Fehr), and the kind Sean lets him into his car, unknowingly setting off a nightmare the moment Nick gets in. In fact, Nick is infected with a terrible vampiric disease that turns him into a bloodthirsty vampire during outbreaks. Later, Sean and Nick save a woman named Megan (Izabella Miko) who is being chased. Sean finds himself deeply attracted to the fragile and pitiful Megan. Ultimately, Nick confesses everything to Sean, and Sean becomes infected with the vampiric disease as well; the only way to return to normal is to kill the source of the virus— the evil vampire Jit (Johnathon Schaech).
