The film depicts the decline and destruction of a feudal aristocratic family, dominated by Lord Yang (played by Jing Miao), with complex relationships and conflicts among family members. The eldest son of the Yang family dies young, the second son is weak, and the third son is a gambler, while the fourth son, Zhi Ying (played by Zong Hua), dares to take action.
