Song Shijie (played by Stephen Chow) is a famous lawyer in the Qing Dynasty. His exceptional eloquence and skills allow him to boldly criticize the high-ranking officials and seek justice for many people. Although he is dissatisfied with the corruption and darkness of the officialdom at that time, he still takes a considerable amount of bribes, some of which are ill-gotten gains, leading to retribution on his own sons, of whom more than ten could not survive.
