In the late 1920s, American writer Agnes Smedley (played by Elizabeth Guni Mai) was introduced to the Red Army division commander Liu Xian (played by Li Hongwei) in Shanghai, who told her about General Zhu De's (played by Liu Huaizheng) legendary experiences. Later, Smedley finally arrived in Yan'an, where she met the legendary Zhu De and witnessed the even more legendary Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In Yan'an, she experienced General Zhu De's great yet humble personal charm, and through multiple conversations with him, her thoughts were enlightened and her soul elevated.
