The story takes place during the Republic of China, where the main criminal of the new army's military salary heist, Wu Feng, escapes from prison. Legends circulate that the huge sum of military funds he stole is buried deep in the desert. Various individuals move in response to the rumors for different purposes: bounty hunter Han Zhi Dao hopes to find the military funds to redeem the famous courtesan Liu Gui Yan, new army general Cai He wants to capture Wu Feng to avenge his deceased brother, and the killer duo A Tu and A Shui receive orders to complete a mission in the desert. The three groups unexpectedly meet at the Yinfeng Inn, and further complicating matters is Sha Bi Tian, the leader of the Zhensha Gang, who is entrenched at the desert pass and seeks to get a share for himself to achieve quick success. Inside the Yinfeng Inn is the seemingly inconspicuous boss lady Wu Qing, who waits for the chance to rescue her captured accomplice, horse thief Niu Liu, and the mysteriously eccentric resident scholar Xiao Xiu Cai. In a tense atmosphere, a sandstorm approaches, and Sha Bi Tian brings news of Wu Feng's return before dying suddenly. The trapped guests in the inn begin to test each other's motives and eliminate rivals. The chaos finally erupts when Xiao Xiu Cai, the mentor of A Tu and A Shui, can no longer hold back and engages in combat, leading to a bloody storm at Yinfeng Inn. What’s even more unexpected is that Wu Feng has already infiltrated the Yinfeng Inn with the help of his former accomplice Wu Qing and begins a killing spree, while the coveted military funds lie buried under the inn's archway, overlooked by everyone due to circumstances. Han Zhi Dao, who fights his way out, dies filled with resentment upon realizing he was used by Liu Gui Yan. The opportunists Xiao Xiu Cai and Liu Gui Yan actually serve the true mastermind behind the scenes, Lord Duan, whose aim is to support Yuan Shikai's restoration of the imperial system. As the truth comes to light, the desert returns to tranquility. The survivors, Cai He and A Shui, set fire to the Yinfeng Inn and head south with the military funds to join the anti-Yuan army in search of hope.
