Young people in Los Angeles are passionate about street racing, where having speed means having everything. New cop Brian (Paul Walker) goes undercover to infiltrate the active street racing gang in order to gather evidence and catch the criminals behind a series of recent car thefts. With his superb driving skills, Brian quickly earns the admiration and trust of the gang leader Dominic (Vin Diesel), and soon falls in love with Dominic's sister Mia (Jordana Brewster). However, the second-in-command, Vince, harbors hostility toward Brian, as he has secretly been in love with Mia, and Brian’s arrival threatens his position.
At this point, the gang members start to suspect there might be a mole among them, making life difficult for Brian. The longer he spends with Dominic, the deeper their friendship grows, putting Brian in a difficult position.
