Li Yannan (played by Chen Hou) is the pianist of the song and dance troupe, while Chen Xiaoyun (played by Zheng Peipei) is the singer. The two have known each other for many years, with Li Yannan often offering guidance on Chen Xiaoyun's singing techniques. Over time, their feelings for each other gradually deepen. Hong Ling (played by Du Juan) is the prominent female lead of the troupe, and boastful of her talent, she demands a pay raise and threatens to go on strike. However, Li Yannan finds Chen Xiaoyun and has her take over Hong Ling's role, leading to Chen Xiaoyun's overnight fame, while the boss dismisses the now worthless Hong Ling.
Chen Xiaoyun's outstanding talent catches the attention of the playboy Du Bangjie (played by Jiang Guangchao), who soon pursues her passionately. Although Li Yannan watches as Chen Xiaoyun is about to be won over and feels heartbroken, he still chooses to silently wait for her.
