The islanders are superstitious, distrustful of medicine, and only believe in the local chieftain and the shaman Bada (Huang Zongxun). A young doctor, He Weide (Zhang Chong), comes to Lanyu to practice medicine while searching for his father, who went missing while researching red bugs on the island, leading to a fallout with his fiancée Bai Danna (He Lili). He meets Father Ji (Ji Shouchang) and the orphan Yalan (Zheng Peipei) on Lanyu. Yalan falls in love with He, inciting jealousy from the chieftain’s son Xihuda (Wang Xia). At the same time, He treats the islanders, causing Bada's followers to decline, and both Xihuda and Bada plot to kill He. He and Yalan venture into the Hongtou Peak forest to find his father, unknowingly falling into danger...
