This film is the second part of the trilogy by Buñuel in collaboration with Mexican actress Silvia Pinal, produced by Pinal's husband Gustavo Alatriste. The story begins with a grand dinner. The Nobles host friends at their home, but just as the guests arrive, the chef and servants suddenly leave, leaving only the butler Julio (Claudio Brook). After the banquet, the guests enjoy a piano performance by one of the attendees, but afterwards, none of them intend to leave. They sleep in their clothes in the house and wake up to find they still cannot leave; whenever they approach the door, they feel an inexplicable reluctance. A group of people mysteriously becomes trapped for several days, while those outside cannot enter. Overwhelmed by hunger, thirst, exhaustion, and fear, these upper-class men and women begin to argue, cry, resort to violence, and even threaten to kill the host in an attempt to break the "spell"… The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival.
