The story takes place during the turbulent period right after the establishment of the Western Han Dynasty. Emperor Gaozu of Han used his sword to slay the White Serpent, captured Xianyang under three chapters of law, defeated the strong Qin, vanquished Xiang Yu, and resisted the barbarian invaders, ultimately unifying the war-torn Central Plains. However, shortly after the founding of the dynasty, Emperor Gaozu passed away, and the domineering Empress Lü seized power, granting titles to her relatives and slaughtering the Liu clan descendants. Liu Heng (played by Wang Qinghe), far away in the State of Dai, couldn't escape the massacre, as the Empress had long dispatched her confidant Lü Kun (played by Park Roosik) to take his head. Unexpectedly, a masked hero infiltrated the palace and stole the secret edict. One night, while the King of Dai was alone in the palace, troubled by the state of the nation and its people, he was unable to sleep. At that moment, the masked hero burst into the palace, was stopped by guards, but still managed to deliver the secret edict to the King. The King was taken aback; his sister Princess Wenyang (played by Fang Ying) devised a plan to ask for help in the name of seeking treatment for their mother, going to Chang'an for assistance. The fate of the Han Dynasty hangs by a thread…
