Jack (Jean-Marc Barr) grows up by the sea in Greece. Although he witnessed his father's death in a diving accident as a child, it did not diminish Jack's love for the ocean. When Jack's friend Enzo (Jean Reno) finds him and persuades him to participate in a diving championship, Jack agrees. He excels in the competition and wins the championship, gaining the love of Joanna (Rosanna Arquette). The two are passionately involved, but Jack realizes he cannot let go of or be apart from the sea. An accident occurs. His friend Enzo tragically dies during a dive, and Jack places Enzo's body into the ocean. Jack's heart is in turmoil; he feels he no longer belongs to human society and just wants to dive into the deep sea, living alongside the ocean like a dolphin. Despite hearing the news of Joanna's pregnancy, Jack looks tenderly at his lover and turns to embrace the ocean.
