In a remote Russian military district, two trains collide and explode. This is followed by an unimaginable nuclear explosion, resulting in significant casualties within Russia. Dr. Julia Kelly (played by Nicole Kidman), from the White House's anti-nuclear smuggling intelligence division, suspects that this nuclear incident was not a mere accident. To investigate the incident and uncover the truth behind the explosion, Julia is tasked to work with Army Special Forces Lieutenant Thomas Wills (played by George Clooney). During their challenging investigation, they uncover a shocking conspiracy. A nuclear terrorist impersonating a politician has smuggled a nuclear warhead into the U.S., intending to blow up the United Nations headquarters in New York. Directed by Mimi Leder, the film "Doomsday Preparedness" is based on an article by veteran investigative journalists Andrew Coburn and Leslie Coburn, with material derived from declassified intelligence and real news events collected by the Coburns.
