John Blaze (Nicolas Cage) is possessed by the angel of justice, Zarathos, but the angel is volatile and unpredictable, consuming the souls of evildoers. Moro (Idris Elba) asks Blaze to bring the child Danny to the temple to prevent a demon from taking his soul, promising to lift the curse from Blaze in return. Danny is the son of the demon Roarke, who is pursuing Blaze and the fleeing mother-son duo to implant his powers in Danny. Just as the mother and son are trapped in a quarry, Blaze arrives, and the angel within him bursts forth, overpowering Carrigan. He transforms into the Ghost Rider, mercilessly tearing his opponents apart. When the battle ends, the three head to the temple while Roarke awakens the near-dead Carrigan, granting him greater destructive power to retrieve Danny. Inside the temple, Moro fulfills the agreement and exorcises Zarathos from Blaze. However, just as he is doing the exorcism, a priest in the temple attempts to kill Danny, believing him to be a demon. Before they can act, Carrigan arrives, taking Danny to Roarke. Roarke forces Danny to participate in a ritual, aiming to turn him into a complete demon. Blaze attempts to stop the ritual, persuading Danny to choose good over evil. In the final battle, to defeat the demon, Danny uses his power to implant Zarathos back into Blaze. This time, Zarathos becomes the embodiment of justice and defeats the demon.
