In 1946, the International Military Tribunal for the Far East convened in Tokyo to try Japanese war criminals. The tribunal was composed of judges from 11 countries, appointed by the National Government of China, with Mei Ruyao (played by Liu Songren) as the head of the Chinese judges who flew to Tokyo on March 20. The reporter Xiao Nan (played by Zhu Xiaotian) from the "Dagang Daily" was responsible for the full coverage of the tribunal, and he had a reunion with his pre-war lover, Tian Fangzi (played by Lin Xilei). At a banquet, Xiao Nan witnessed Mei Ruyao's excitement and joy but sensed that this journey would be fraught with difficulties. The trial finally opened, and the Chinese delegation faced various difficulties and setbacks; surprisingly, the majority of the court was opposed to the death penalty. Faced with the biases and challenges from judges of other countries, the Chinese judges and prosecutors fought cleverly, overcoming various disadvantages due to their unfamiliarity with American law, and gained the upper hand during the courtroom debates. Will the tribunal ultimately be able to sentence notorious war criminals like Tojo Hideki to the gallows?
